I'm I covered for Professional Liability with my CGL?

Commercial General Liability Policies aka CGL policies ordinarily do not cover Professional Liability unless such coverage has been added to the policy via an endorsement. Many professional liability exposures do not represent a risk of Bodily Injury aka BI, Property Damage aka PD, or Personal and Advertising injury and thus do not come within the scope of general liability insurance in the first place.

A professional is a person who holds himself or herself out as possessing special skills and experience. Because of their knowledge and experience, professionals are held to a higher standard of care than ordinary individuals are.

Professional liability policies cover injury sustained by a third party as a result of an act, error, or omission committed by the insured in the performance of his or her professional duties. The injury sustained in a professional liability claim may be BI, PD, or personal and advertising injury, or it may constitute only economic injury—a loss of money.

For a claim to be covered under a Commercial General Liability policy, it must seek recovery for Bodily Injury, Property Damage, or Personal and Advertising injury, within the meaning of these terms in the policy. Such injury must also be caused by an occurrence, which is defined as an "accident, including continuous or repeated exposure to substantially the same general harmful conditions." Professional acts and omissions do not usually qualify as an "accident."
